Biography
I worked as a television researcher for three years after leaving Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford with a Double First in English Language and Literature in 1989. After helping to catch a bank robber on Crimewatch UK, I worked on documentaries for Channel 4 from airport economics to the science of the nose. Schools television sparked an interest in education and prompted my switch to teaching in 1992. I have taught English in state and private secondary schools, mainly in the UK but also in Italy and South Africa. Since 2004 I have taught part-time so as to pursue a freelance journalism career alongside teaching. I trained at the London School of Journalism. I also write and perform songs on guitar and piano in London venues such as the National Theatre and the Troubadour. Many of my songs tell stories, often about places I’ve been to.
